Info-Box
Berlin, 1994 - 1995
Kulturbauten Competition 1st prize
The commission for the Info-Box was the result of an invited competition in 1994. The aim was to design a building which would reflect the worldwide interest in the building activities on Potsdamer Platz of recently re-united Berlin. The box was concise and easily identifiable, hovering on stilts above the surrounding chaos. This was at the time the largest construction site in Europe. It was a simple yet powerful gesture. In October 1995 the Info-Box opened and in a very short time attracted a large audience, welcoming its fourth millionth visitor in February 1998. In January 2001, the temporary Info-box was disassembled according to the initial decision.
